Which Survey Tools Catch Bad Data? Typeform, Jotform, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics and SiliForm Compared
Every survey tool helps you collect responses. Far fewer help you tell which ones to trust. What five tools actually document for catching bots, rushers, duplicates and AI-written answers.
How we compared
We are SiliForm, so read this with that in mind. To keep it fair, we only list a feature for a competitor if the vendor documents it on its own website, and we checked those pages in October 2026. Where we couldn't find documentation we say "not documented", not "no". Products change, so check each vendor's current pages before you decide.
The comparison
| Check | Typeform | Jotform | SurveyMonkey | Qualtrics | SiliForm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Field format validation | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes, plus AI check of meaning |
| Bot detection | Not documented | Not documented | Panel verification | Yes (reCAPTCHA score; license) | Honeypot, sessions, invisible check |
| Speeders | Not documented | Not documented | Via metadata | Speed considered in Response Quality | Fixed and median-based, server-timed |
| Duplicates | Not documented | Not documented | Panel ID exclusions | Yes (license) | Exact and near-duplicate |
| Straight-lining | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Yes, plus "always agreeable" |
| Contradictions | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | AI audit plus your own rules |
| AI-written answers | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Yes (light weight) |
| Score with reasons per response | Not documented | Not documented | Not documented | Quality flags (license) | 0 to 100 with reasons |
Qualtrics details are from its Response Quality and Fraud Detection support pages. SurveyMonkey details are from its market research data quality page.
Typeform
Typeform is one of the best tools for building forms people enjoy filling in. Its quality controls are about input format: valid emails, numbers in range, required fields. We found no documented response scoring. Its community forum has threads from users whose forms were hit by spam bots. If your forms collect leads or feedback from a known audience, that may be enough. If you run open surveys with incentives, you'll be cleaning data by hand.
Jotform
Jotform's strength is breadth: thousands of templates (300+ for HR surveys alone), widgets, payments, approvals. Its validation covers formats and widgets, without checking what an answer means. It's a great choice for operational forms like applications, bookings and orders, where the bigger risk is a missing field rather than a fake answer.
SurveyMonkey
SurveyMonkey's documented data quality work centers on its own audience panel: email and location verification, ID exclusions to stop the same panelist answering twice, and replacement of poor-quality responses. For surveys you distribute yourself, it points to response metadata for spotting speeders and to filtering or deleting responses. Strong if you buy its panel, more manual if you don't.
Qualtrics
Qualtrics is the enterprise standard for research, and its fraud tooling reflects that. Its Response Quality feature flags bots and duplicates (when Fraud Detection is enabled), considers response speed, and its bot detection uses reCAPTCHA scores. Availability depends on your license. If you run large studies with panel sample and quotas, it's the safe choice; the trade-off is price and setup.
SiliForm
SiliForm is built around the idea that most bad data comes from people who get past the CAPTCHA, not bots stopped by it. On every plan, AI validation checks each answer against its question while the person fills in the form, rejects temporary emails, and a hidden spam trap and rate limit stop basic bots.
On the Pro plan, every response is scored at submit on speed (timed on the server), straight-lining, always-agreeable answers, duplicates and near duplicates, fake contact details, gibberish, your attention checks and consistency rules, missing form sessions and an invisible bot check. About 20 seconds later an AI audit looks for filler, contradictions and AI-written answers. Each response lands in Clean, Review or Flagged with the reasons shown, and one switch removes flagged responses from your charts and exports.
Where it falls short: SiliForm doesn't sell panel sample, doesn't do quotas, and has lighter statistics than Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey's enterprise tiers.

Frequently asked questions
Which survey tool has the best fraud detection?
For large research programs that buy panel sample, Qualtrics has the most mature documented fraud detection, including bot and duplicate detection, though it depends on your license. For teams that run their own forms and want every response scored with reasons, SiliForm documents the widest set of answer-level checks. Typeform and Jotform focus on form building and field validation rather than response scoring.
Does Typeform detect fake responses?
Typeform validates field formats such as email and number. We could not find documentation of a response quality score, speeder detection or straight-lining detection in Typeform as of October 2026.
Does SurveyMonkey detect bots?
SurveyMonkey's market research data quality page describes email and location verification and ID exclusions for its audience panel, and says you can view metadata to detect speeding. It has also published guidance on outsmarting bot respondents. Check its current plan pages for which features your tier includes.
Is SiliForm a replacement for Qualtrics?
For enterprise research with panel sample, complex quotas and advanced statistics, no. SiliForm is a form and survey builder for teams that run their own distribution and want clean data without an enterprise contract. Its Pro plan is $29 a month, with a 14-day free trial.
